I've been waiting for just such a guide as my Ubuntu 7.04 + Parallels trials have not gone well up to now. The trick is to pretend to be a Solaris machine for the install. I seem to recall having to do this in VMWare years ago for RedHat 5.x.

Ok, here's the deal. Do not show me Emacs stuff, OK? Just because I'm a Mac user as of this past spring doesn't mean I believe you when you try to pass off some cool feature of Emacs as a cool feature of Mac OS X. Thanks.

Book Recommendation:
Ruby for Rails is a beginner level guide for Ruby on Rails programmers who don't yet know very much about the Ruby programming language. I have to be honest, this isn't one of my favorite books. I found it very informative, but often I would be reading along and start to think "I get it, now move on". Your experience with it may be different, especially if you're new to programming in general. It's well written, but a bit wordy in my opinion. Once you read it you will indeed know enough Ruby to begin to do Ruby on Rails programming. |
