Today Linus found a bug and then commented on how a particular version of gcc Ingo was using was creating some very broken assembly. Alan Cox reminded Linus how the code generated was not illegal per the posix specs but was indeed broken as stated. Later the conversation digressed a bit:

I'm working on it, I'm working on it. I'm just as frustrated
as you are.  It turns out to be a non-trivial problem.
