Two Rivers Ford in Nashville, TN are crooks

April 5, 2008

Last week I called Two Rivers Ford Service Center to find out how much my 30K mile service would be. I knew it wasn't going to be cheap but I needed to get it done. The guy I spoke with asked me the make and model and I told him. He quoted me a price of $349.95 + tax. I said thanks and hung up the phone. I calculated the sales tax and found I needed to budget about $385 for the service.

So yesterday I dropped my car off. The 30K mile service takes a while so I left my car overnight. Today they called just before noon and said it was ready for pickup. I went down to get it. When I got there the cashier told me it would be $441 and some change. I explained how I wasn't quoted nearly that amount and asked her to explain why it was so much higher. Without even looking at the itemized bill she stated the extra cost was for "shop supplies". I told her no one mentioned any possible additional charges for "shop supplies" and that I could not pay the additional amount. I could have paid it, but that's not the point. She said that I would have to pay it or else she wouldn't release my car. I told her again that I wouldn't pay it and she suggested I go talk to Craig, the service manager.

When I got out to the service area to talk with Craig, he immediately tried to pass the buck explaining how he wasn't the one who quoted me the wrong price and that I should have told him the quoted price when I dropped the car off?!?! Now why exactly would I need to do that, wouldn't the prices stay about the same from day to day? That one statement alone tells me there is obviously some dishonest business going on down there.

At that point I was seeing red and told him he needed to fix my bill or else I was going to file a claim with the Better Business Bureau, and that I would also speak with his district manager. That must have struck a nerve with him because he then went to the cashier and told her to change the price to what was quoted me to start with. I was still fuming inside but I gave them my card to make the charge and left without saying much else.

Once I got on the interstate and got up to about 65mph, my car began to shake. Something was wrong with the front end. They obviously rotated the tires, but clearly they were not balanced as it says I was charged for on the service receipt. I called Craig back and told him about it. He suggested I bring my car back so he could fix it. I told him they would never touch my car again, explained to him where he should go, and hung up.

I'm blogging about this so perhaps you or someone you know doesn't get ripped off in the "shop supplies" up-charge racket. And Craig, if ever you read this, I have to believe your own karma will catch up with you soon enough, if not an irate customer the next time you try to rip someone off. I can only imagine how many people you rip-off every day.

Screwed by Two Rivers

In June 2008 while on vacation in Nashville I had truck problems. I contacted the same Craig and dropped my truck off. One day later my truck was "fixed" and I gladly paid $3048. A few days later while driving home to Louisiana I experienced the beginning of the same problem (loss of power). I phoned Craig and was assured that it had to be something else as they had fixed the problem that I came in with. Less than 30 days after I gladly paid Two Rivers Ford $3048 I had a total failure that was exactly the same as before! I have since learned that they did not replace the part that caused both failures. Ford has refused to warranty the work, because Two Rivers did not replace the original bad part. Two Rivers claims to have tested the part, but I have had at least 3 FORD certified mechanics look at the bill and all feel that the part was NEVER tested. The bad part that was left on my truck caused the exact problem again (only this time the problem was MUCH worse) Neither Ford or Two Rivers Ford has fixed my truck. It is now 8/14/08 and I am still without my truck. This nightmare began on the 4th of July weekend! Ford says that it is a workmanship issue, and my only recourse is to sue Two Rivers Ford. I plan to sue, file a complaint with the BBB, and contact the Tennessee Attorney General.

If you are going to threaten them with a BBB complaint I suggest you do it. Two River's is listed as "satisfactory" with the BBB, so the only way to let them know your dis-satisfaction is to file the complaint.
I took my wife's auto into their service department and was told the car was not worth fixing and if I wanted it fixed I would have to pay $3000-$7500 to replace the engine. He wouldn't even recommend driving it home. Though he COULD turn me over to their used car manager for a trade-in value on the purchace of a new car.
I found a trusted mechanic in town for a second opinion, who looked it over and fixed the problems. He told of the many mechanics in the Donleson, TN area who make a living off of repairing Two River Ford's mistakes. Within the past few days, I have also met a salesperson that works at Two River's who told me he wouldn't even trust them to fix his car.
I pity the populace of Mt. Juliet, TN, where Two River's Ford has just moved, who have not experienced the incompetence of their service department.
